3 Ways to Capture and Engage my Audience?

Successful businesses thrive on the shoulders of smart marketing. Engaging customers rather than a focus on getting them to spend more money on products. Companies like Toms distinguish themselves by providing a pair of shoes to the needy for every pair sold, engaging the customer to be a part of something bigger. I feel that every business should distinguish themselves and their brand from the competition by doing three simple things: creating relatable and helpful content, being yourself or being your brand, and using interest building visuals.

One of the best ways to engage people is by giving them helpful information they can relate to rather than only focusing on advertising a product. One of the funny things I have learned in the brief time I have been selling cakes is that “Nigerians want quality but most do not want to pay for it”. People all over the world do what they can to spend less money than they have to because everybody wants to be rich!

So, how do we convince people to spend their hard-earned cash on our products?

Is it by giving crazy discounts?

Having constant giveaway contests?

Posting funny videos?

thinking about something

The best way to draw potential buyers to our product is to create relatable and applicable content to help them solve their problems, relating that content to our product, and showing them a problem they really did not know existed. For instance, in the baking space, I see a lot of captions like “delicious and moist chocolate cake”, “taking orders for tomorrow”, “scrumptious and delectable cakes, cupcakes, and cookies”. These can be facts about one’s business but they do not help the viewer understand the brand or the personality of the CEO.

How do we then create relatable content?

The most important thing I discovered about creating content is the need to discover who we really are and be true to that story because it’s the best way to build consistency. Consumers are loyal to people they trust, people they feel they know. So, the onus lies on every business owner to be open and true to themselves to people they have never met.

Also, research shows that the average attention span has reduced drastically over the years, so one’s message must be short, sweet, and supported by VISUALS. Picture and video content usually tell a story better than words do, they help sustain viewer interest and distract people long enough to drive the message across. In my little experience creating content on my Instagram page @tifesbakehouse, using pictures like…

have so much content and describes the feeling of something, better than I could illustrate it in words.

Finally, engaging people is not as hard as some may think, it’s just about creating relatable content, discovering and being yourself or your brand, and using eye-catching visuals to pass across your message.
